How many of you really spend time to know yourself in really well? If you need to spend 2 seconds to think about this question, I bet you that you have really spend any! Hence, goal setting without knowing what you wants is basically waste of time (as I have highlighted in my previous goal setting series). Getting to know yourself is one of the primary step and best investments you can make in your future. The better you know yourself and understand your needs, wants and desires, the better you are able to set your goals and to design a life that you’ll truly love. It will be easier for you to make decisions based on your needs and make choices that will leave you happier and feeling more fulfilled. [Read more →]

Listen to Your Instincts
January 24th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Have you ever listen to your instincts? Like “ I don’t feel comfortable here. I don’t like the sound of this. This doesn’t look right to me.”
With regard to your body or surroundings, your instincts are your best early warning system. Listen to the inner voice. Listen to that gut feeling. Go to the doctor. Leave the party. Get away from these people. Quit this job. Don’t open that door. Duck into that store. The world is an imperfect place. There are dangerous places and people.
Every once in a while, your instincts may be off and you may feel foolish. Err on the side of safety and your instincts may save you from danger. Give yourself time or space to consider your options. It is foolhardy to do otherwise.

Goal Setting - Are You Get Yourself Committed?
January 9th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Now that you realize how important it is to have a strong sense of commitment to accomplish your goals (After reading my goal setting series), the big question is how do you do it? Some will find this question easy to answer, but execution is always the challenging task.
But really, it’s very simple. We are driven by one of two things. The desire to gain pleasure or the need to avoid pain. Isn’t it? It’s the “carrot and the stick” principle that has been used to motivate people for all time. The secret is to take charge of the carrot and stick (Never thought of this?) and use it to motivate yourself. [Read more →]

In Search of Happiness: Avoid Toxic People Around You
January 8th, 2008 · 4 Comments
We’ve all seen them. People who, when you are in their presence, drain your energy. Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, calls them “Energy vampires.”
These are the people who, no matter what, choose to focus on the negative in any situation. They’re always finding fault with the company, their co-workers or whatever is going on in their lives. They will drag you down, even if you’re having a great day. These are the people who never have anything good to say about anyone or anything, themselves included. [Read more →]

Goal Setting - Spread Your Enthusiasm
January 4th, 2008 · No Comments
Alright, you should have goals by now. Otherwise, you should refer back to my earlier posts on goal settings (a special releases prior to New Year).
Now, putting your goals and action plan to work in your life will elevate your soul and
lift your spirit. You will feel a zest for life. You will live full, enriched days. This will happen because you will have taken the quiet time to think, organize and prioritize your tasks in each day. You will feel enthusiasm in many things and these things will become part of your day. You will be in control too. Words like boring, bland and uneventful will rarely describe your work or your relationship any more.
Be known as a public speaker, announce to the world about your goals and show them how you can achieve it and leave yourself with no back door. Most importantly, make people feel and share your success story.
Enthusiasm is contagious.

Don’t Be A Perfectionist
January 3rd, 2008 · 2 Comments
Have you had a experience like this? Amend some articles, works, assignments over and over again, trying to improve in every single line of the article, area of work etc? STOP now.
Trying to be perfect definitely takes too much time and effort. It creates too much stress and is impossible anyway. Instead, strive to relax at the 90% level. (which is 10% higher than 80/20 rules.) This is the personal mastery level. Following your action plans outlined in the goal setting process, reaching the 90% level in most of your goals will be something that you don’t even have to think about. It will happen through your persistence, determination, hard work and nice personality.
Right now, learn about the income and the lifestyle level of those in the top 10% of your profession. If you aren’t content earning more than 90% of your coworkers, choose another profession.
It is possible to try too hard in business, exercise and relationships. Overwork can produce stress and anxiety, which is the opposite of the inner peace you might seeking so far. Your best is good enough.
Start to live to a high standard, not to an impossible obsession.

Leadership: Top Searches in Technorati: Chua Soi Lek
January 3rd, 2008 · 1 Comment
Just did a quick check to Technorati.com today. To my surprise, the Top Searches today is no longer iphone (which ranked no. 2). Even Ron Paul ranked no. 6 in the list. The top searches today is chua soi lek. So who the heel is chua soi lek?
Simple, you can find the answer in the internet as well. Here’s the news, Malaysia Health Minister Dr Chua Soi Lek today openly admitted that he was the person featured in a video depicting a man having sex with a woman purportedly in a hotel room.
However, he said that he will not resign as health minister but will instead let Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi decide on his fate.
“I serve at the pleasure of the prime minister,” he said. “I will not allow (other) people to jeopardise or obstruct my duties.”
24 hours later….
“I am relinquishing my position as health minister, MCA vice-president, Labis MP, Johor MCA liaison chief and Batu Pahat MCA division chief.”

So now, what this got to do with personal development here?
It is the people who make a country great. In every country, brave, compassionate people of action must be willing to assume the mantle of leadership and face the challenges to education, law, government, health care, the environment and human rights. However, with poor leadership, this can eventually bring down a country.
So I think you don’t want to have this kind of leader in your country? Open your heart, elect the right leader to lead the citizen in your country.

Commitment to Never Ending Personal Development Bootcamp
January 2nd, 2008 · No Comments
Have you ever think of this? Or this thought has been hiding deep inside your heart for long long time? If you have run through some of my posts earlier, you should by now have identified some areas of personal development.
The Japanese have a word for the concept of never ending improvement or development, kaizen. Progress and ultimate success come to those who train and keep training. If you choose to stop and become aware, you can become a better spouse, son or daughter to the mother, friend, employer, employee, athlete and citizen.
Commitment comes from the inside out and is tested often. Measure yourself against the best. Most others will choose to be average. This is what average means. You won’t know your limits if you don’t keep trying. Reject the idea of good enough. If you have decided in your minds after you have answered the questions of goal settings and personal development in my posts earlier, commit to excellence. Take each of your goals and think of how you can improve every day, regardless of 1% or 0.001%.
Success is a journey. It is not a quick fix. The joy is in the doing. Think of success not as a peak to be climbed but a high plateau to be walked.
Set the bar high for yourself and them. You will all be the better for it.

Make Your Day Special
January 1st, 2008 · 2 Comments
Many people enjoy using the first few minutes of the day for their reflective time. How did yesterday go? What do you want to accomplish today? What will be most important? This, of course, becomes your prioritized to-do list. How will today vary from your usual routine? Can you think of any small things that you can do? Perhaps there is something that you’ve been avoiding, that, if you do it, would make you feel especially proud of yourself.
Give each day a specific purpose. For unsuccessful, unhappy people, there is often a sameness to their days. Is it Monday or Thursday? Is it March or November? Is it 3 o’clock in the afternoon or 10 o’clock in the morning? They’re in a rut and it doesn’t matter.
Everybody has the same amount of time each day. How are you going to spend our 24 hours? Tight your yearly goals into monthly plans and daily action points in advance. Make lists. Lists are your road map to personal accomplishment and balanced living. Always carry paper and pen. What are you doing today to ensure a better tomorrow for yourself and your family?
